Cathleen Rehfeld

Medium: Oil Painting

ARTIST STATEMENT. A sense of place is what Cathleen is after in her paintings. Capturing the light of the day, and the seasons, Cathleen spends a lot of time exploring and hiking as well as always finding something more that interests her about painting. The energy of brushstrokes, color theories, contrasts between line and shapes, light and dark, and just feeling that sense of place. There is always something to make a statement about in her paintings.

Cathleen is constantly amazed by what she sees in The Great Pacific Northwest, her home, and she wants to share it with you. Her paintings represent what she finds beautiful and interesting in the world. She strives to bring that beauty into other people’s environments and share the joy and optimism she feels.

EDUCATION. Cathleen has a degree in Fine Art from University of Texas at Austin, and attended The Gage Academy in Seattle WA. She started out her visual career as a graphic designer and art director for publications and advertising firms.

ARTISTIC PATH. Since 1995 Cathleen has been working as an oil painter.  Over the years she has studied with several prominent artists and painters. She has also been privileged to be in many painting competitions and exhibits, winning some awards along the way.

She also created the locally and nationally known art event, “Pacific Northwest Plein Air Competition” in 2005. With the help of many people along the way, it now has a home in the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington. In 2010 Cathleen was also a featured artist on the Oregon Public Broadcasting program Oregon Art Beat. http://www.opb.org/programs/artbeat
