ANN FLEMING
CREATIVE BEGINNINGS. While Ann Fleming majored in art and trained in teaching, she has had a lifelong love affair with clay. In harmony with her very practical nature, she created colorful functional pottery and architectural accents for over 25 years. Ann thoroughly enjoyed those years of creating bright and happy work that would grace the daily lives of people. But as the years went by, pottery took a physical toll and her creative nature longed for something different.
INSPIRATION AND PROCESS. In 2004, Ann began to focus primarily on narrative sculptures of female and animal figures in clay and realized that she is a storyteller. And though she loved hearing that her cup or bowl was joyfully used daily, there was no comparison to evoking a shared emotion. In 2006, urged by friends, Ann cast her first piece in bronze. To date, over 300 pieces have been sold to private collectors and she has been selected for extended public art placements. Ann’s artistic approach, characterized by stylized realism, a focus on shape and layered color, and a desire to evoke moments of recognition in the viewer, underscores her identity as a storyteller who seeks to create meaningful connections through her sculptural work.
Today, Ann lives in Ridgefield, Washington, where she enjoys studio work, the local wildlife, and walking trails.
